A doula is a trained and experienced health professional that provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support before, during and after labour. Doulas facilitate communication between the labouring woman, her partner and her clinical care providers. Numerous clinical studies have found that a doula’s presence at birth results in shorter labours with fewer complications, reduces negative feelings about one’s childbirth experience, reduces the need for pitocin, forceps or vacuum extraction, reduces the requests for pain medications and epidurals and decreases the incidence of cesareans1. As a Naturopathic Doula, Dr. Aisling provides natural pain management interventions during pregnancy and labour and uses a variety of naturopathic medicine modalities to treat mom and baby after birth. Dr. Aisling attends only one birth per month to ensure she can be present at each birth. Contact EMOH or Totum North today to find out more information about having Dr. Aisling at your birth.
